three 85-foot tall sweeps (long oars) near its ghost townish wharf pay tribute to the maritime history of aberdeen, wa.  i later learned from the internets that the oars pivot on windy days, jennifer wastes no time getting dirty during her first session with the macro lens.  here she's chasing a banana slug in the hoh rainforest, olympic np. little beetle along the trail to deer lake, olympic np i wasn't particularly thrilled with the landscape composition of this buldging rock formation at seal rock beach, but turning it on its side seemed to give it some personality.
sunset, silhouettes, sea stacks, and surf at seal rock beach, or jennifer admires the incredible haystack rock, a 327-foot formation ~1-mile off the coast.  it is begging to be climbed. little islands dot the coastal seascape at olympic national park, wa we were struck by how much the pacific rockweed (<i>Fucus gardneri</i>) reminded us of cat heads... specifically keyser, lloyd, harry, and tim (shown here from left to right).  unlike cat heads, however, rockweed secretes gametes from its ears during low tide.
why i can never live in oregon.  or at least not in charleston, or. water droplets cling to a spider's web in the hoh rainforest, olympic np. the pupil strucutre in each drop is my lens, surrounded by an iris of sky and forest. a cool effect that i hadn't expected. an obligatory backcountry knitting shot, with greasiness emphasized.  taken near deer lake, olympic np. a long exposure blurs a rising tide as it percolates through seaweed beds, cape arago state park, or
lone beach grass at the oregon dunes state recreation area near lakeside we found this thumbnail-sized crab at short sand beach in oswald state park, or jennifer learnerizes atop cape perpetua, with some of the best - and most solitary - views of the oregon coast boardwalk crossing through a wildflower meadow, deer lake, olympic np.  i tried to antiquate this shot by vignetting the edges a bit and using a filter from DxO optics that simulates black-and-white film.
